Tony's obsession with woodworking began at Harvard, where he made his first table while doing his undergraduate studies in Philosophy. After graduating with an Art degree from UC Berkeley, he traveled through Europe (including Scandinavia) and worked as an artist, boat builder, civil servant, and carpenter.

Tony and his wife, Jackie, began the Cottage Table Company over 34-years-ago and have kept a rare craft alive through the use of good materials, simple design and fine workmanship. Tony and Jackie introduced new designs in a variety of exotic woods, creating thousands of original one-of-a-kind tables they hand built for their unique clientele. Their tables have been featured in top design magazines including Metropolitan Home, W, and Architectural Digest. After many years of success, Tony and Jackie decided to retire and hand-picked two young, enthusiastic successors.

THE NEW OWNERS OF THE COTTAGE TABLE COMPANY

Michael Ammon began apprenticing for Tony in December of 2007, and Tony quickly discovered that Michael had a talent for table making. For all his life, Michael has been surrounded by craftsmen. He worked in his family’s welding business during his teenage years, and then traveled to Israel where he worked at a furniture manufacturing shop in Tel Aviv. Through his travels, Michael has developed a keen eye for design and a devout love for preserving old world craftsmanship. While apprenticing for Tony, Michael wanted to make sure the integrity of the business lived on after Tony retired.

Michael and his partner, Samantha, bought the The Cottage Table Company in August of 2008 and continue the tradition of creating beautiful, handmade tables for the Bay Area.
